Cascada El Pavon is a waterfall we didn’t know existed until we decided to start exploring during our week long visit to Costa Rica. We decided to drive up a random road into the mountains near Ojochal. We ended up at the Bamboo Room for a drink and snack. It was at the Bamboo Room that we learned about Cascada El Pavon. We were given instructions from the owner and started on our next adventure.

Basically were were told to go back to the main road, Hwy 34, keep going south, and pay attention for a bridge. Just after the bridge there were several small signs on the left side of the road indicating the road that would lead us to the waterfall. We drove for a few miles on this road and passed two tilapia restaurants. The road was not paved and quite bumpy. We had a 4×4 but this waterfall was accessible without a 4×4.
When we reached the waterfall entrance there was a small sign on the left side of the road. We parked along the road and within a minute we were at the waterfall.
While we had to drive farther to reach this waterfall, Cascada El Pavon was the easiest to access by foot. Hiking or closed toes shoes were not needed.
When we visited, the water Cascada El Pavon seemed colder than the water at Nauyaca and Uvita Waterfalls. There were pools down stream from the waterfall but we decided not to take a dip.
There was a short hiking path that led above the waterfall. We decided to check it out before moving on.
For us the visit to Cascada El Pavon was a quick stop vs a destination to spend a few hours. We did take a little video footage of our experience.
