During our week trip to Costa Rica one of our goals was to learn to surf. Neither of us had ever tried. We ended up taking lessons from Costa Rica Surf Camp in Dominical.

Dominical is a small surfer town along the coast and the Surf Camp was just across the street from the beach. They offered surf lessons daily. The time of the lessons depended on the tide schedule. The tide schedule was important to pay attention to. There was usually a two hour window for the best surfing conditions. Surfing outside this time frame was not recommended for beginners. The waves either grew too big or the tide came in to where you would surf onto rocks.
Only one other person signed up for the lesson with us so we received a lot of one on one instruction. The lesson was worth the money. Without it we probably would not have been successful riding any waves. We did have some success the first day with the instructor.
We rented boards two other days during our visit. Renting boards was very reasonably priced. Our second attempt at surfing, or our first attempt without an instructor, went pretty poorly. We used a lot of energy and caught few waves. It wasn’t until our third attempt that we finally got the hang of it. Of course this was our last day and right after we returned the surf board we had to leave town.
Because we were legitimately trying to learn to surf we didn’t capture any video footage of our many failures and few successes.
